In 1947 AKA (Apparate & Kamerabau GMBH) introduced the Akarette, a 35mm viewfinder camera in Wilbad, Germany.  After moving premises in 1949 to Friedrichshafen the Akarex (1951) and Arette (1956) models were produced until 1960 when financial difficulties caused bankrupcy and the demise of the company, now called Appparate und Kamerawerke GMBH (AKW) since 1957.
